For those who missed the weekend…
Congratulations to Rich and Bobette for their win in the chili cook-off! I’ll stop by with your award certificate this coming weekend!
There were four awesome entries – thanks to all of the cooks for braving the cold weather to provide us with a wonderful dinner.
Rich and Bobette (Chiang Mai):
The winner! Rich started the chili, and then Bobette played doctor. After a bit of back and forth, the resulting cumin and curry gave this chili a unique and distinctly Asian flair. Delicious.
Matt (Knight Flight):
Matt gets an honorable mention for his most eloquent and artistic description of chili. Unfortunately, that pretty much means that I can’t remember what all went in it, but it really sounded good. I’m pretty sure it was less spicy than his previous entries, and did not have wasabi – although lots of people thought about it.
Ted and John (Aquila):
Smokey Habanero – similar overall to Matt’s in design.
Dave (RockReation):
A basic recipe, very tasty.
Thanks to Doug for the chips, cheese, and sour cream.
All of the chili was wonderful, and as usual, enough side items were brought that we all had a wonderful meal and lots more food than we could eat. Once everyone had sampled all of the entries, we headed back to Tenacious for some warmth and to enjoy Diane and Eddie’s wonderful “home baked” desserts. They were so perfectly consistent, one would have thought that the cookies, pie, and cinnamon buns came from a bakery. Ted brought his mini-stash of music, and we enjoyed a cozy evening listening to some oldies and having a nice evening visiting.
Melanie and Chesley set a new “die hard” example this weekend and braved the chilly weather for an exhilarating sail ALONE. I was in Tenacious when I heard them wondering on the VHF where everyone was. Apparently it was an awesome day for a sail, and they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
And the good news (for me) is…
Although our potential buyer was a no-show this weekend, the couple from last weekend had put in an offer by the time we got home Saturday night. We now have a cash deposit, and a closing on 2/3! The couple, Brian and Jessica Connelly – will be staying at Steele Creek for at least a few months, and plans to join the club to socialize. They dream of taking the boat to the coast, but we’ll see what effect we end up having on them. Drop by and say hello! They will remain in slip C-12.
And of course that means that we can close on our new boat TOMORROW!!! Yeah! We will finally have a home again! And we don’ t have to show the boat anymore, or get the mast down, or get it on the trailer. All we have to do is get acquainted with our new boat (and our new neighbors)! Thanks to everyone who has helped in this endeavor, and especially those who didn’t go sailing in case we needed help and those who loaned us dishes to eat and drink from Saturday night. (In case you are wondering – we will be keeping the name RockReation. Apparently – it is just so “us.” Sure wish vinyl could be reused…)
Have a great week – we’ll be up this weekend exploring our new Hunter 27 – slip C-29 for now, moving to slip C-10 (not sure exactly when) – but we have to make sure the dock box gets moved – Eddie has been watching it a bit too eagerly. And we’re bringing a bottle of champagne for anyone who’d like to have a toast with us!
Note: Since we are closing tomorrow, we will be sharing the anniversary of Tenacious – who closed January 17th last year – I think Eddie and Diane are obligated to come share a toast with us!
Have a great week,
Helen Rock
