NEED RESPONSE! Next Weekend's Blessing of the Fleet/Clarksville Trip and Dinner

Hello Everyone,

This weekend was race 5 & 6 of the Spring Racing series.  I  will let Eddie fill you in on the race results.  Although Mark and I could not come up on Saturday, I understand there was a wine sampling event on Aquila on Saturday night and they were practicing the MOB (Man Overboard) drill at the dock.   On Sunday when we arrived, we were hearing this noise that sounded like sirens going off.  For those of you that were not up at the marina this weekend, that noise was the sound of thousands of Cicada bugs.  I have never heard such a sound.  The Cicada’s were all over.  So many of them were hitting the boat and falling into the water.  The fish and birds were just gobbling them up.  The winds were very light on Sunday.  We cruised for 2 hours and barely got up to Clambake Cove.  We then anchored near Unplugged and Tail wind.  Tenacious and Chiang Mai joined us.  It was the first time this year that I got into the water.  Water temp was 73.  At 4 PM, everyone left except Chiang Mai & us.  We were going to try our first overnight on the new boat.  It was pretty hot.  After dinner, our cabin was so hot from cooking dinner that we decided to move to blow the hot air out of the cabin.  We ended up in front of UNC and anchored there for the night.  We watched the stars and checked the anchor before heading to sleep.  About 1 AM it got very windy and the boat was bobbing.  We got up to check the anchor and let out more line.  About 10 minutes later, it started to pour.  We ran to close all the hatches.  It rained again around 5 AM.  Then by 7 AM, the sun was out and there was a nice breeze.  We sailed back to the marina to work on the boat.  We did 6.8 knots on an upwind run in up to 20 knot winds.  That was fun.  The lake was very quiet on Monday.  We did see both George Lundy (Dead Stick) and Bill Opal come up late afternoon to check on their boats.

Our next club event is this weekend in the “Blessing of the Fleet” and sail/dinner in Clarksville.  We will have a captain’s meeting at 10 AM on C-dock.  We will distribute flower petals for tossing into the wreath.  We will meet just south of the marina and line up at 10:45.  Rick Roundtree will set the wreath and do the Blessing on VHF channel 71 at 11 AM, after which, Christian will lead the fleet past the wreath where we toss the petals into the wreath.  After, most boats will continue on for the sail up to Clarksville to anchor there and spend the night.  Others may choose to do a day sail and drive up to the Pizza Pub in Clarksville to join us for dinner.  Some may just drive up to Clarksville for dinner.  I need to get a headcount by Thursday.

Please let me know the following:

Sailing up to Clarksville (role call)
