STEELE CREEK YACHT CLUB |

Time marches on. Our club year started with a brisk Brass Balls Sail on Sat., Feb. 17th. Ten hearty souls braved the elements that day. We held our Spring Business Meeting on Sat., Mar. 9th. Charles Robinson gave a detailed update on the marina activities. Rich Kamens (in absentia) was awarded the 2023 Shipmate of the Year Award for his dedicated effort serving as our Commodore for the past three years and being a great ambassador for the club welcoming newcomers and old-timers alike. A spring race was held on Sat. Apr 20 hosted by Tim Vicknair aboard “Airlock”. The scheduled Potluck was almost a bust but saved later in the evening by Darren Wohl. Surprisingly, Eddie Walters aboard “Tenacious” finished first in the race in spite of his handicap related to his stealth Caterpillar prop. The Race Committee has requested the purchase of a drone with remote access camera to address future photo finishes. (just seeing if anyone is reading this). I was very appreciative of Don and Dana Courtney on “Palisades” and Rich Kamens on “Chiang Mai” for their help with the Memorial Day weekend Blessing of the Fleet ceremony. We had over 12 sailboats participating and very cooperative weather. Jill and Charles Robinson hosted the SCM customer appreciation day celebration, which drew a big crowd. Rhonda and Keir (“Sapphire”) did a great job recently hosting the Italian Night Potluck on Sat., Jun. 8th, which had a good turnout. One of our goals for this season was to refresh our club kiosk (next to the marina kiosk). Thanks to Doug and Denise Massey for their effort! We’ve finally reached the Summer Solstice as the days are longer and warmer (actually hot as hell!). Stay safe the rest of the summer, make sure you are keeping up with your boat maintenance, and have fun on the water. Please note our upcoming events posted on our website’s home page.
