Gorgeous Weekend for the First Fun Race

What a beautiful weekend!  For those few who didn't make it to the lake, you missed a perfect weather weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.  Sunny, warm (not hot) and winds in the 10-20 range made for a glorious sailing day.

I'll leave it to Eddie to re-cap the Fun Race festivities, but as a participant, I am voting a strong yes to the new format.  Unlike the false start on the rainy windless day, we had a great turnout on Saturday and the captains drew names for the crew.  It was a great way to experience different boats and get to know new people a little better.   Congratulations to our winners (of both trophies).  We know you earned them!   Many thanks to Dave and Barbara for serving as our race committee.

Due to warnings regarding outdoor fires, the campfire was moved from the moorings to a campsite at the campgrounds.  My apologies for making the announcement on the VHF and then "disappearing" - I didn't know the volume on my radio had been turned all the way down, so didn't hear some of the questions that followed.  Thankfully, Steve and Laura were on the ball and pulled this one off.  I think I learned a new trick as commodore - delegation by disappearance!

Steve asked me to warn everyone about this being spring, and therefore "snake season".  We have both copperheads and cotton mouths at the lake, and they tend to hang out in the weeds and rocks close to the shore.  They enjoy sunning themselves on the rocks, so please be especially careful with your kids and pets.

Next weekend is our Swap Meet  (4:30 at the gazebo) and free boat inspections provided by the US Coast Guard Auxillary.  They will be setting up a table and providing information on their Boating Safety Courses (already a requirement in NC for those under age 26, as well as for anyone on a jet ski in Virginia).   Please go through your stuff, and bring items you no longer need to the meet - this is a great way to get rid of the clutter and find items you do need at a great price.  The more merchandise the better.

Naomi & I are planning on the sail to Clarkesville on May 26.
Naomi can't sleep on the boat and would like to stay at a B&B in Clarkesville. Would prefer one close to the marina.

Any suggestions?
