Races 3 & 4 of our Spring 2011 race series will take place next weekend.
We started this year’s racing with a good turn-out with nine boats showing up for races 1 & 2. The weather forecast was not the best, although the racing turned out to be good. Race one started with 4 boats hiitting the starting line overlapped. Race 1 was a two-lap hotdog course. The first mark rounding was troublesome for most of the fleet. Honeycraft and Wrenagade wriggled past the fleet and lead the rest of the boats around the race course with Honeycraft taking line honors.
The wind stayed in the 5 to 6 knots range throughout most of the day. With the weather calling for rain to hit the lake by 3 p.m., we tried to get in a second race as soon as the first race ended. Race 2 consisted of a one-lap triangle course. The fleet hit the line on time with many boats fighting for clean air. Wrenagade jumped in the lead half-way up the first leg and showed the fleet her transom the rest of the way to take line honors.
