September 6: Time for the new event introduced last year, the Treasure Hunt. Thanks to the great work of Barb and Dave Wilcox and Rich Kamens and Bobette Eckland for such a fun time again enjoyed by a big group. The participants are mostly assigned by the event hosts to the participating boats, so it is a great way to get to know other people and even puts husband against wife. The event starts with 2 members from each team racing via dinghy towards the end of D dock to retrieve the first clue, and then the Hunt is on! You work closely together to figure out clues to your next destination and then accomplish a goal together to receive your next clue. At the end everyone gets together to celebrate with wonderful prizes perfectly selected by our event hosts, and shared by all for the end of wonderful, fun filled day.
September 19 & 20: Friday was the perfect for weather for Darren and Sigal Wohl to have their new boat Sea Gal splash into Kerr Lake. Rick Connelly was there early to help in the set up. Several Supervisors, Eddie, Mark and Meryl arrived in the afternoon, and of course Meryl was fully stocked with sandwiches, chips, and drinks. Saturday we had quite the gathering for an overnight at Clambake.
September 28: Our annual Fish Fry turned out to be a nice day and attended by many. Our great cooks, Paul Sullivan, Don Courtney and Rich Kamens did another fantastic job cooking up fish, hushpuppies, french fries, and the newly added fried veggies this year were a hit! Following the Fish Fry a group moved over to the campground for a bon fire and some dancing.
October 10: The weekend brought a huge wind and lightning storm combined with a monsoon. C dock ended up sideways and was sliding down the concrete. We were afraid we were going to be trapped on the dock. Charles and his group were there quickly to make repairs but they had to wait out the storm.
October 25: The Hot Dog Race hosted by Ron Honeycutt for many years now and as usual was quite successful with participation from many sailboats. It was a gorgeous sunny day, with tshirts coming out in the afternoon and only needing a light sweatshirt in the evening when the Hot Dogs went on the grill and roasted to perfection by Dave Rock.
