June 6 weekend: Friday evening there were a lot of people checking out Zephyros and enjoying a nice evening outdoors with friends. Saturday was the perfect day for staining the dingy dock. Quite a few of the owners showed up for the work, even some who were not owners, and I know the owners that were not able to make it really appreciated all those who were there removing boats, staining, and putting boats back. With all the volunteers who were there, the work was done in a few hours allowing for plenty of time to get out on the water to enjoy the rest of the day. The new SCYC Info Board was completed and in place. What a great job by Ron Honeycutt and Bob Harrison. Zephyros had her maiden voyage on the lake that afternoon and there were quite a few on board to enjoy the day. A raft up soon took place. Later in the evening several boats enjoyed a nice and toasty bonfire. Sunday there was some pretty good wind so there were quite a few sailboats out taking full advantage.

June 13: What a great weekend for a raft up! 13 boats and lots of people participated in the biggest raft up since July 4th. Weather was warm and definitely a good day to be in the water. The entire day was such a fun time. As the raft up began to break up for the afternoon, 5 boats decided to stay out on the hook for the evening and some impromptu shag lessons soon broke out beneath a gorgeous sunset.

June 20th weekend. Our little Sandpiper continued sitting on her eggs, through thunderstorms and pouring rains. The weekend included another nice raft up on Saturday followed by some terrific food at Italian Night, hosted by Rhonda, Keir and Daisy, and included red checkered table cloths and great decorations. Quite a crowd attended the event and a great time was had by all!
June 26 -28th weekend there were not any events planned but was perfect weather staying out on the hook overnight and a couple enjoyable raft ups!
July 4th weekend: Since the 4th fell on Friday the entire weekend was very busy with people and the weather was beautiful all weekend. For the 1st time in quite a few years the temperatures were not so terribly hot. There were 2 sets of gatherings from the marina rafted up Saturday for fireworks with people anchored out between each and I can say for sure everyone had a great time swimming, socializing, eating some terrific food and watching some incredible fireworks.
July 12: With long time member Paul Sullivan planning for retirement and soon moving to Mexico, it was time for his boat Querida to leave the marina and head to the coast. Diane Walters, Meryl Alexander and Laura Twyman went into planning mode to have a farewell party for Querida's last weekend in the marina and to celebrate Paul's upcoming retirement. A group of about 20 gathered at the end of C Dock for lots of good food, laughter and fun.
July 19: Clarksville Days. Always a great time with lots of vendors with lake items and plenty of yummy food. The evening ends with live music and then a large fireworks show. Several boats made the trip up for the weekend to enjoy the fun.
August 2: Oscars Dog Days of Summer. Our 3rd annual Dog Days hosted by Laura Twyman, Ann Hamner and Diane Walters was changed to Oscars Dog Days in Memory of our first winner Oscar Miller with his owner Doug Miller in the first owner/dog look a like contest. With Oscars passing this past year it was important to update the event name in Oscars honor. The weather was a little rainy but we still had a good turnout. Doug was presented with a miniature "Oscar Award" for his prior win and the 2014 winner was Diane Walters with Rocky. We received lots of donated items for the shelter and raised over $100, which was then spent buying lots of doggy and kitty supplies that was split between the shelter where our own Don Courtney volunteers his time, and the shelter where we ended up adopting our new dog a couple of months later. The event was such a great success and we are so thankful to all of those who gave so generously of items or money. Many thanks to "Paws At The Corner" who donated so very much by way of treats, grooming supplies, etc which we were able to use in our Doggy Bags and all the leftovers being donated to the shelters. They have supported our event all 3 years and are part of our success. Of course we couldn't have done it without our Hot Dog cooker Dave Rock.
August 16: Its Luau Time!! Our biggest and most popular event of the year has brought close to 70 people the last couple of years. Several boats anchored out off Henderson Point on Friday evening to enjoy dinner and bonfire for the pre-party. Unfortunately quite the storm popped up and 9 of us stood on top of the picnic table under this one small blue tarp as the monsoon struck. The next day someone on one of the boats anchored out said they could hearing us laughing all the way out there and the comment had been made, "what are they laughing at, its pouring rain." Even though the weather was less than wonderful the 9 of us had quite a memorable experience. The next morning the storm had cleared and it was not a chilly day as it has been the last couple of years. All those who were anchored out for the evening came ashore to start setting up tables, tarps, decorations, paper products etc. With a lot of team-work, including alot of help from our Sea Scouts, the campground was ready to go by early afternoon as other club members began arriving. The afternoon started with lots of boiled shrimp by our famous cooks Don Courtney and Paul Sullivan. This shrimp seasoned with just the right amount of Old Bay seasoning is always a crowd pleaser! As dinner time arrived we were greeted with shrimp, potatoes, clams, corn on the cob as well as all the side items and desserts brought by various club members. A lot of fun was enjoyed by all. The evening ended with a bonfire and S'mores and as the crowd broke apart several of the group picked up several bags of trash at 1AM before calling it a night. Sunday morning a small group gathered to clean things up, pack things up, and load back on to the truck of Rick Connelly who offered his truck for transport of everything over to the campground and back to the marina. The Luau is a big event and it takes a lot of work to put together so a huge Thanks goes out to all those who helped out in anyway to make the Luau a great success.
