I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and New Years.
We had a busy marina this past weekend. With the weather being nice, we had several day sailors and weekenders up for the day. There was plenty of wind on Saturday and winds gusting to 18. I counted about 8-10 boats out for a sail. We had another group set up the corn hole boards and had tournaments up top of D-dock. By 5 PM people were heading to their boats to prepare for finger-food-mania at 6:30 PM. It was so nice (not too cold and no wind) so we had the gathering up at the Gazebo. We had 20 people to celebrate with. What a spread. We had venison sausage, 2 different types of meatballs, cold cut spreads, hummus and chips, soft tacos, 3 different types of cocktail franks and sauces, Swiss cheese fondue, cheesecake and pastry. We had lots of good conversation and reminiscing about the past year. The crowd stayed until 9 PM then it was getting cold and we moved on to the boats.
There were 2 parties to ring in the New Year. A more sedate party on M&M with more food and talking about SCYC past and future and a rocking party on UNPLUGGED. At 11:45 PM the party broke up on M&M with early wishes for a great New Year. Then Mark & I moved over to UNPLUGGED to ring in the New Year. We had 13 people on the boat. There was pole dancing and funky chicken dancing going on inside. The bathroom was even used as a dance floor. We toasted in 2 New Years (different clocks), then moved the dancing onto the dock.
We literally Rocked The Dock. We Salsa’d, Electric Slide, Cuban Line Danced, Funky’d Chicken, bumped, 80’s disco’d, and had a blast.
What a great way to celebrate amongst great friends. On Sunday, the winds were good again and the sun was out. Several boats again headed out. We had winds gusting to 20knots. We sailed back and forth by Henderson Pt and Hibernia. Finally at 3:30, we headed in. We saw Moon Fish out for a New Year’s motor.
OKAY, let’s start the New Year out with a blast. Our first event of the new year is the Group Sail and 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off scheduled for (weather permitting) Saturday January 14th. (Rain or Snow date Jan. 21). We have had some amazing turnouts for this event. Last year I think we had 10-13 entries for the cook-off. Please mark your calendar for this event.
