Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend.  Friday was a great day to be out on the water.  The temperatures were in the 80’s and the wind was constant.  Those who were able to be up on the lake had a great sail.  Several of our members started up to Clarksville on Friday evening.  The moon was almost full so you could sail at night too.  The temperatures got into the low to mid 60’s that evening and was great for sleeping.  The traffic has been a little light on the dock Friday evenings.

Saturday was another beautiful day with the blue skies light winds.  Mark & I headed up to Clarksville about 8 AM.  We tried to sail and kept the sails up till the Great Island.  Then the winds were just too light.  We motored the rest of the way, getting to Clarksville at about 1 PM.  We only had 5 boats make it up to Clarksville and several other members drive up.  The street festival seemed a little less crowded than last year.  However, it was always nice to walk through.  We saw a beautiful butterfly face paint on one little girl.  We always like to go to the SPCA booth and pet the animals.  We also met a friend of ours up there.  He does sand sculptures and was doing this years’ design.  The helicopters were buzzing around giving tours, and the little train was tooting up and down the main drag.  The smells of the different foods filled the air.  By 3 PM we went back to the boat for a swim.  At 6 PM, we went back to town for dinner at the Lake House.  I love the architecture of a historic Victorian.  We saw some of our members out and about too.  We were back at the boat by 7:30 PM.  The cove and area between the 2 bridges started to fill up.  The fireworks started at 9:30 PM.  They were awesome.  Saw some new ones.  They had this triple cube and a heart.  The finale was spectacular.  By the end of the show, all the boats started to leave.  The blue flashing lights of police and wildlife were all over the place.  Mark and I were asleep by 10:30 PM.

On Sunday morning it was very cloudy.  We went to Lamplighter for breakfast.  When we returned we got ready to head back to Steele Creek.  By the time we got past Goat Island, the sun started to shine through.  We motored up to Gilligan’s Island to check it out for our Castaway weekend, and thought it would be too small.  But there was a larger island just behind it.  That island had a sandy beach area and more room to accommodate the boats.  It would work out well for our Castaway Weekend (August 12-14).  We will be able to hide treasures for the young and young at heart.  With that, we headed back to the marina.  We saw several of our members sailing up to Great Island and back and other friends of ours sailing to Ivy Hill.  I love the lake area beyond Great Island and hope that our new members will explore those recesses of the lake too.  We made it back to the marina by 4PM.  It was a nice weekend.  Great temperature and great company.

Our next club event is in 2 weeks.  We have Docktails on Friday evening July 29th and an ice cream social on Saturday evening.  The theme for this month’s Docktails will be rum drinks.  (Pina coladas, daiquiris, etc..  Have a great week.  I will post more information next week.
