The summer weather of Hot! Hot! Hot! Continues. It was again so hot on Friday. I know that the hot temperatures are keeping people from coming up. We had a small crowd up on Friday night, so everyone came aboard M & M for some frozen pina coladas with whipped cream and cherry on top. On Saturday, there was a nice breeze in the morning. Unplugged and Tenacious got out early to take advantage of the wind. We were finishing up our refrigeration project then we went out. We saw Parrotise in their usual Hibernia spot. The wind seem to be waning so we anchored near Parrotise. Soon Tenacious and Cynosure rafted up with us and Unplugged anchored near Parrotise. Another powerboat came by too. Maximum Joy and Journey anchored nearby too. We stayed in the water for at least 4 hours as temperatures reached 100 degrees. Mel, Chesley and Steve got a treat of a tube ride. Mel was the last person standing as she bumped both Chesley and Steve off the raft.
By 5 PM we were heading back to the marina to have dinner and prepare for the ice cream social. At 7:30 PM we gathered near Moon Fish and Unplugged. There were weather watches for storms so we wanted to get going with the social. Unfortunately, I had put the ice cream on dry ice on Friday and it worked a little too well. The ice cream was frozen solid. But with the heat, we didn’t have to wait too long to start eating. We even were able to celebrate Jeff’s birthday with a sundae. We had caramel, butterscotch, strawberry and pineapple toppings with chopped nuts, wet walnuts and mini M&M and whipped cream. Several people were even able to get seconds when the wind started to quickly pick up and everyone had to disperse. We threw all the stuff into the cooler and went back to our boats.
Several people went back to the gathering to watch the storm come since no rain as of yet. Within 10 minutes that all changed. We all jumped onto Unplugged and went inside. The crew of Unplugged were great hosts. We had he wine flowing and dined on pita chips and garlic bagel chips while a storm raged outside. Mark was stuck on M & M all alone. We happened to be talking about him when all of the sudden he burst into Unplugged to scare Steve who was sitting on the stairs. It wasn’t long after that the party broke up. On Sunday it was a cloudy day. The temperature was much reduced. Many people were heading home early since it was raining on and off. After 2 big squalls, it got sunny. We spent the morning cleaning up Cheeseburger since someone was going to come and look at it. Mike headed home after the second squall, he got a call that a tree in his yard was hit by lightening. By 5 PM, the dock was empty. Mark and I stayed overnight as someone came on Monday to look at our boat. It was a fun weekend. Hopefully we will start to cool off a little cause July was a lion of a month.
Our next event is in 2 weeks and it is Castaway Weekend. We will have our August Docktails on that Friday. The theme will be mixed drinks such as gin & tonic, white Russians, etc. bring your favorite mixes. Then on Saturday we have Castaway weekend on the island near Gilligan’s Island. To get there you go towards the dam. Past Great Island, you make a left. You will pass Rockwall on your right and just past that is Gilligan’s Island. Just behind that is the island that we will meet at. There will be buried treasure on the island. We will gather at 3 PM. By 4 PM the younger crowed will be given shovels and instructions as to where to dig for prizes. After that, the adults will be given the opportunity to dig for 3 West Marine gift certificates. Once that is over, we will do a group “Taco “ dinner. We will need some people to prepare ahead of time chopped meat, some to prepare cubed chicken, and some to prepare cooked shrimp then others will need to bring tortillas, lettuce, salsa, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, diced onion, sour cream, refried beans, chips and sauce etc. paper plates and plastic utensils. We will reheat the meats on the fire and everyone will be able to make their meal. I will ask you to let me know what you will bring next week.
Also start thinking about our Luau on Saturday August 27th. If you have guests that you want to invite to camp and partake, we will need to know. The campground sleeps 35 people. We will also need to know so that we can get enough food for everyone. So keep this in mind. Start asking your friends and family now to put it on their calendar. Have a great week.
