Saturday's Fun Race Recap
I would like to thank everyone for participating Saturday
in our last club fun race. This year I have tried to mix things up a little to make the club racing fun and challenging. Saturday, we tried a new format that allowed each boat to start racing within a 4 hour window.
The course was a 5.5 NM distance loop starting at the goal post, sailing around buoy's F,E,H and back to the goal post to finish. Each boat could choose to race rounding all the marks to port or starboard. As it turned
out we had a split, half went port the other sail starboard. The winds for Saturday were to build during the day. The race window begin at 12 noon. To start, each skipper would call their start as they crosses the goal post. All boats had to be finished by 4 pm. We had 7 boats race Saturday. Aquila was the first boat off with 5 to 6 knots of wind. Following on Aquila's heels was Rosebud & The Edge 27. Soon to follow were Loblolly and Chaing Mai. The wind was up and down for the next 45 min, between 3 & 6 knots. Last to come to the game was M&M. They had determined that the wind would build after 1pm so they entered to course shortly after 1. Most of the fleet were half way around the course when the wind finally filled in. We were seeing winds around 10 to 15 at the starting line. Some of the boats were seeing wind as high as 17 to 18 at the bottom of the course. Each skipper would call their finish as they sailed through the goal post. Aquila had the best corrected
Finish time for most of the day until RACE BOAT M&M came charging to the finished line. They blasted through the finish line erasing Aquila lead and taking the race to finish number 1. We had a nice day on the lake watching the club racing their boats. My hat is off to M&M.
They made the right call to start after 1 pm. They sailed in more wind that the rest of the fleet. We will try this again next year. Thanks to everyone that raced in our club races this year. We look forward to
next year.
